My Top 10 Supernatural Episodes

So, I started watching Supernatural like a month ago? Anyway, it was kind of reluctantly at first, because I watched the pilot a while ago and found it incredibly boring, plus I'm not really a fan of the horror genre, but since I decided to start the show because of Dean/Castiel, I actually had incentive to keep going this time. LOL.

The first three seasons were pretty good, but seasons 4 and 5 are definitely my favorites (as evidenced by this post). Not only because of Castiel and Dean/Cas (although that's obviously a huge part of it), but because I really loved the Apocalypse storyline and the fact that there were less stand-alone MOTW episodes during those seasons. Despite the fact that I basically watch shows of every single genre, including lots of crime shows, my favorites are always the more serialized ones (ex: Lost, Battlestar Galactica, Veronica Mars, etc.) so I was glad to see Supernatural take that turn.

Anyway, once I got all caught up, I ended up buying S4 and S5 on DVD, and decided to picspam my top 10 episodes. I already posted them all on tumblr, but picture quality isn't the best there, and my picspams don't look so good compressed, I decided to post them here as well. From the episodes and screencaps I chose, a lot of my opinions about the show become pretty obvious (quite a few Carver and Edlund episodes, LOTS of Dean, lots of Cas, not much Sam, and the aforementioned fact that seasons 4 and 5 are my favorites), but I would love to know y'all's opinions as well! :)

#10: 4x05 - “Monster Movie” (written by Ben Edlund)

Jamie: So you guys are like Mulder and Scully or something, and The X-Files are real?
Dean: No, The X-Files is a TV show. This is real.

#9: 4x03 - “In the Beginning” (written by Jeremy Carver)

Castiel: You realize, if you do alter the future, your father, you, Sam, you’ll never become hunters, and all those people you saved, they’ll die.
Dean: I realize.
Castiel: And you don’t care?
Dean: Oh, I care. I care a lot. But these are my parents. I’m not gonna let them die again. I can’t. Not if I can stop it.

Dean: I couldn’t stop any of it. She still made the deal. She still died in the nursery, didn’t she?
Castiel: Don’t be too hard on yourself. You couldn’t have stopped it.
Dean: What?
Castiel: Destiny can’t be changed, Dean. All roads lead to the same destination.
Dean: Then why’d you send me back?
Castiel: For the truth. Now you know everything we do.

#8: 3x08 - “A Very Supernatural Christmas” (written by Jeremy Carver)

Sam: I don’t get it. You haven’t talked about Christmas in years.
Dean: Well, yeah. This is my last year.
Sam: [sighs] I know. That’s why I can’t.
Dean: What do you mean?
Sam: I mean, I can’t just sit around, drinking eggnog, pretending everything’s okay, when I know next Christmas you’ll be dead. I just can’t.

#7: 4x01 - “Lazarus Rising” (written by Eric Kripke)

Dean: Why would an angel rescue me from hell?
Castiel: Good things do happen, Dean.
Dean: Not in my experience.
Castiel: What’s the matter? You don’t think you deserve to be saved?

#6: 4x18 - “The Monster at the End of This Book” (written by Julie Siege)

Dean: Whoa, whoa, what? This guy, a prophet? Come on, he’s practically a Penthouse Forum writer. [to Chuck] Did you know about this?
Chuck: I, uh— I might have dreamt about it.
Dean: And you didn’t tell us?
Chuck: It was too preposterous. Not to mention arrogant. I mean, writing yourself into the story is one thing, but as a prophet? That’s like M. Night-level douchiness.
Dean: [to Cas] This is the guy who decides our fate?
Castiel: He isn’t deciding anything. He’s a mouthpiece, a conduit for the inspired word.
Dean: The word? The word of God? What, like the New New Testament?
Castiel: One day, these books, they’ll be known as the Winchester Gospel.
Dean & Chuck: You gotta be kidding me.

#5: 2x22 - “All Hell Breaks Loose, Part Two” (written by Eric Kripke)

Sam: Did I die? Did you sell your soul for me, like Dad did for you?
Dean: Oh, come on. No.
Sam: Tell me the truth. Dean, tell me the truth.
Dean: Sam…
Sam: How long you get?
Dean: One year. I got one year.
Sam: You shouldn’t have done that. How could you do that?
Dean: Don’t get mad at me. Don’t you do that. I had to. I had to look out for you. That’s my job.
Sam: And what do you think my job is?
Dean: What?
Sam: You saved my life over and over. I mean, you sacrifice everything for me. Don’t you think I’d do the same for you? You’re my big brother. There’s nothing I wouldn’t do for you. And I don’t care what it takes, I’m gonna get you out of this. Guess I gotta save your ass for a change.

#4: 5x08 - “Changing Channels” (written by Jeremy Carver)

Gabriel: You do not know my family. What you guys call the Apocalypse, I used to call Sunday dinner. That’s why there’s no stopping this, because this isn’t about a war. It’s about two brothers that loved each other and betrayed each other. You think you’d be able to relate.
Sam: What are you talking about?
Gabriel: [whistles] You sorry sons of bitches. Why do you think you two are the vessels? Think about it. Michael, the big brother, loyal to an absent father. And Lucifer, the little brother, rebellious of Daddy’s plan. You were born to this, boys. It’s your destiny! It was always you. As it is in heaven, so it must be on Earth. One brother has to kill the other.
Dean: What the hell are you saying?
Gabriel: Why do you think I’ve always taken such an interest in you? Because from the moment Dad flipped on the lights around here, we knew it was all gonna end with you. Always.
Dean: No. That’s not gonna happen.
Gabriel: I’m sorry, but it is. [sighs] Guys, I wish this were a TV show. Easy answers, endings wrapped up in a bow. But this is real. And it’s gonna end bloody for all of us. That’s just how it’s gotta be.

#3: 5x03 - “Free to Be You and Me” (written by Jeremy Carver)

Dean: Look, I’ll be the first to tell you that this little crusade of yours is nuts, but I do know a little something about missing fathers.
Castiel: What do you mean?
Dean: I mean there were times when I was looking for my dad when all logic said that he was dead. But I knew, in my heart, that he was still alive. So who cares what some Ninja Turtle says, Cas? What do you believe?
Castiel: I believe he’s out there.
Dean: Good. Then go find him.

Lucifer: I will never lie to you. I will never trick you. But you will say yes to me.
Sam: You’re wrong.
Lucifer: I’m not. I think I know you better than you know yourself.
Sam: Why me?
Lucifer: Because it had to be you, Sam. It always had to be you.

#2: 4x16 - “On the Head of a Pin” (written by Ben Edlund)

Dean: Is it true? Did I break the first seal? Did I start all this?
Castiel: Yes. When we discovered Lilith’s plan for you, we laid siege to Hell, and we fought our way to get to you before you—
Dean: Jump-started the Apocalypse.
Castiel: And we were too late.
Dean: Why didn’t you just leave me there, then?
Castiel: It’s not blame that falls on you, Dean. It’s fate. The righteous man who begins it is the only one who can finish it. You have to stop it.
Dean: Lucifer? The Apocalypse? What does that mean? Hey! Don’t you go disappearing on me, you son of a bitch. What does that mean?
Castiel: I don’t know.
Dean: Bull!
Castiel: I don’t. Dean, they don’t tell me much. I know our fate rests with you.
Dean: Well, then you guys are screwed. I can’t do it, Cas. It’s too big. Alastair was right. I’m not all here, I’m…I’m not strong enough. Well, I guess I’m not the man either of our dads wanted me to be. Find someone else. It’s not me.

#1: 5x18 - “Point of No Return” (written by Jeremy Carver)

Sam: I saw your eyes. You were totally rocking the yes back there. So, what changed your mind?
Dean: Honestly? The damnedest thing. I mean, the world’s ending, the walls are coming down on us, I look over to you, and all I can think about is, “The stupid son of a bitch brought me here.” I just didn’t want to let you down.
Sam: You didn’t. You almost did, but you didn’t.
Dean: I owe you an apology.
Sam: No, man. No you don’t.
Dean: Just let me say this. I don’t know if it’s being a big brother or what, but to me you’ve always been this snot-nosed kid that I’ve had to keep on the straight and narrow. I think we both know that’s not you anymore. I mean, hell, if you’re grown-up enough to find faith in me, least I can do is return the favor. So screw destiny. Right in the face. I say we take the fight to them, do it our way.
Sam: Sounds good.

Again, like I said, all of these are posted on my tumblr, and of course feel free to like/reblog, but please don't repost them or anything. :)
